[11] "Prenascence condition (purejāta-paccaya)": The eye base (cakkhāyatana) is a condition for the eye-consciousness element (cakkhuviññāṇa-dhātu) and for the phenomena (dhammā) associated therewith by prenascence condition. The ear base (sotāyatana) is a condition for the ear-consciousness element (sotaviññāṇa-dhātu) and for the phenomena associated therewith by prenascence condition. The nose base (ghānāyatana) is a condition for the nose-consciousness element (ghānaviññāṇa-dhātu) and for the phenomena associated therewith by prenascence condition. The tongue base (jivhāyatana) is a condition for the tongue-consciousness element (jivhāviññāṇa-dhātu) and for the phenomena associated therewith by prenascence condition. The body base (kāyāyatana) is a condition for the body-consciousness element (kāyaviññāṇa-dhātu) and for the phenomena associated therewith by prenascence condition. The form base (rūpāyatana) is a condition for the eye-consciousness element and for the phenomena associated therewith by prenascence condition. The sound base (saddāyatana) is a condition for the ear-consciousness element and for the phenomena associated therewith by prenascence condition. The odour base (gandhāyatana) is a condition for the nose-consciousness element and for the phenomena associated therewith by prenascence condition. The taste base (rasāyatana) is a condition for the tongue-consciousness element and for the phenomena associated therewith by prenascence condition. The tangible-object base (phoṭṭhabbāyatana) is a condition for the body-consciousness element and for the phenomena associated therewith by prenascence condition. The form base, the sound base, the odour base, the taste base, and the tangible-object base are a condition for the mind element (mano-dhātu) and for the phenomena associated therewith by prenascence condition. That materiality (rūpa) in dependence on which the mind element and the mind-consciousness element (manoviññāṇa-dhātu) occur: that materiality is a condition for the mind element and for the phenomena associated therewith by prenascence condition; for the mind-consciousness element and for the phenomena associated therewith it is at times a condition by prenascence condition, at times a condition not by prenascence condition.
