[22] Presence condition (atthi-paccaya): The four immaterial aggregates (khandhā) are a condition for one another by way of presence condition. The four primary elements (mahābhūtā) are a condition for one another by way of presence condition. At the moment of descent [into the womb] (okkantikkhaṇe), mentality-materiality (nāmarūpa) are a condition for one another by way of presence condition. Mind (citta) and mental factors (cetasikā dhammā) are a condition for mind-originated forms (rūpa) by way of presence condition. The primary elements are a condition for derived forms (upādā-rūpa) by way of presence condition. The eye base (cakkhāyatana) is a condition for the eye-consciousness element (cakkhuviññāṇa-dhātu) and the phenomena (dhammā) associated with it by way of presence condition. The ear base (sotāyatana) is a condition for the ear-consciousness element and the phenomena associated with it by way of presence condition. The nose base (ghānāyatana) is a condition for the nose-consciousness element and the phenomena associated with it by way of presence condition. The tongue base (jivhāyatana) is a condition for the tongue-consciousness element and the phenomena associated with it by way of presence condition. The body base (kāyāyatana) is a condition for the body-consciousness element and the phenomena associated with it by way of presence condition. The form base (rūpāyatana) is a condition for the eye-consciousness element and the phenomena associated with it by way of presence condition. The sound base (saddāyatana) is a condition for the ear-consciousness element and the phenomena associated with it by way of presence condition. The odor base (gandhāyatana) is a condition for the nose-consciousness element and the phenomena associated with it by way of presence condition. The taste base (rasāyatana) is a condition for the tongue-consciousness element and the phenomena associated with it by way of presence condition. The tangible base (phoṭṭhabbāyatana) is a condition for the body-consciousness element and the phenomena associated with it by way of presence condition. The form base, the sound base, the odor base, the taste base, and the tangible base are a condition for the mind element (mano-dhātu) and the phenomena associated with it by way of presence condition. The form in dependence on which the mind element and the mind-consciousness element (manoviññāṇa-dhātu) occur — that form is a condition for the mind element, for the mind-consciousness element, and for the phenomena associated with them by way of presence condition.
