[1678] A phenomenon (dhamma) that is undefiled but liable to defilement is a condition, by object condition (ārammaṇa-paccaya), for a phenomenon that is defiled and liable to defilement.
Having given a gift (dāna), having undertaken virtue (sīla), having performed the uposatha observance, one relishes and delights in that; taking that as object, lust (rāga) arises, view (diṭṭhi) arises, grief arises. One relishes what was formerly well practised. Having emerged from jhāna, one relishes the jhāna. One relishes the eye … tangible objects … the base (vatthu) … one relishes and delights in the aggregates that are undefiled but liable to defilement; taking that as object, lust arises, grief arises.
