[1698] A phenomenon (dhamma) that is defiled and subject to defilement (saṅkiliṭṭha-saṅkilesika) is a condition for a phenomenon that is undefiled and not subject to defilement (asaṅkiliṭṭha-asaṅkilesika) by decisive-support condition (upanissaya-paccaya).
Natural decisive support (pakatūpanissaya): Depending on lust (rāga), one produces the path (magga), enters upon the attainment of fruition (phala-samāpatti); depending on hatred (dosa) … longing (patthanā), one produces the path, enters upon the attainment of fruition. Lust … longing is a condition for the path, for the attainment of fruition, by decisive-support condition.
