[488] A wholesome phenomenon (kusala dhamma) is a condition for an unwholesome phenomenon (akusala dhamma) by way of object condition (ārammaṇa-paccaya):
Having given a gift (dāna), having undertaken virtue (sīla), having performed the uposatha observance (uposatha-kamma), one relishes and delights in that. With that as object, lust (rāga) arises, wrong view (diṭṭhi) arises, doubt (vicikicchā) arises, restlessness (uddhacca) arises, grief (domanassa) arises. One relishes and delights in what was formerly well practiced. With that as object, lust arises, wrong view arises, doubt arises, restlessness arises, grief arises.
Having emerged from jhāna, one relishes and delights in the jhāna. With that as object, lust arises, wrong view arises, doubt arises, restlessness arises. When the jhāna has deteriorated, grief arises in one who is regretful (vippaṭisāra).
