[545] A wholesome phenomenon (dhamma) is a condition for an unwholesome phenomenon by decisive-support condition (upanissaya-paccaya): object decisive-support (ārammaṇūpanissaya), natural decisive-support (pakatūpanissaya).
Object decisive-support: Having given a gift (dāna), having undertaken virtue (sīla), having performed the uposatha observance (uposatha-kamma), having esteemed that, one relishes and delights in it; having esteemed that, lust (rāga) arises, view (diṭṭhi) arises. Having esteemed things formerly well practised, one relishes and delights in them; having esteemed that, lust arises, view arises. Having emerged from jhāna, having esteemed the jhāna, one relishes and delights in it; having esteemed that, lust arises, view arises.
Natural decisive-support: In dependence on faith (saddhā), one arouses conceit (māna), grasps a view; in dependence on virtue … learning (suta) … generosity (cāga) … wisdom (paññā), one arouses conceit, grasps a view. Faith … virtue, learning, generosity … wisdom is a condition for lust, for hatred (dosa), for delusion (moha), for conceit, for view, and for wishing (patthanā) by decisive-support condition.
