[552] An unwholesome (akusala) phenomenon (dhamma) is a condition (paccaya) for an indeterminate (abyākata) phenomenon by decisive-support condition (upanissaya-paccaya): proximity decisive support (anantarūpanissaya), natural decisive support (pakatūpanissaya).
Proximity decisive support: the unwholesome is a condition for emergence (vuṭṭhāna) by decisive-support condition.
Natural decisive support: depending on lust (rāga), one torments oneself, tortures oneself, and experiences suffering (dukkha) rooted in the search (pariyiṭṭhi); depending on hatred … delusion, conceit (māna), view (diṭṭhi) … depending on longing (patthanā), one torments oneself, tortures oneself, and experiences suffering rooted in the search.
Lust … hatred, delusion, conceit, view … longing is a condition for bodily pleasure, for bodily pain, and for the attainment of fruition (phala-samāpatti) by decisive-support condition.
Unwholesome kamma is a condition for the result (vipāka) by decisive-support condition.
