[197] Conditioned by a phenomenon coexistent with mind (cittasahabhū), a phenomenon coexistent with mind arises by root condition (hetu-paccaya): three (cases), as in the Dependent Chapter (paṭicca-vāra).
Conditioned by a phenomenon not coexistent with mind, a phenomenon not coexistent with mind arises by root condition: conditioned by the base (vatthu), mind (citta) [arises]; conditioned by mind, mind-originated form (cittasamuṭṭhāna-rūpa) that is not coexistent with mind [arises]; rebirth-linking (paṭisandhi) is as in the Dependent Chapter; all the primary elements (mahābhūtā).
