[226] In dependence on a phenomenon (dhamma) conjoined with mind (citta) and originated by mind (cittasaṃsaṭṭhasamuṭṭhāna), there arises a phenomenon conjoined with mind and originated by mind, not from root condition (na-hetupaccayā): in dependence on one rootless (ahetuka) aggregate (khandha) conjoined with mind and originated by mind, [there arise] two aggregates; in dependence on two aggregates … [so too] at the moment of rootless rebirth-linking (paṭisandhi). In dependence on the aggregates accompanied by doubt (vicikicchā), accompanied by restlessness (uddhacca), [there arises] delusion (moha) accompanied by doubt, accompanied by restlessness.
In dependence on a phenomenon conjoined with mind and originated by mind, there arises a phenomenon that is not conjoined with mind and originated by mind (no-cittasaṃsaṭṭhasamuṭṭhāna), not from root condition: in dependence on the rootless aggregates conjoined with mind and originated by mind, [there arise] mind and mind-originated form (cittasamuṭṭhāna-rūpa); [so too at] rootless rebirth-linking.
In dependence on a phenomenon conjoined with mind and originated by mind, there arise a phenomenon conjoined with mind and originated by mind and a phenomenon that is not conjoined with mind and originated by mind, not from root condition: in dependence on one rootless aggregate conjoined with mind and originated by mind, [there arise] two aggregates, and mind, and mind-originated form; in dependence on two aggregates …; [so too at] rootless rebirth-linking.
