Abhidhammapiṭaka · Paṭṭhāna (4) · Vol. 43 · Section 769

[769] A form-sphere phenomenon (rūpāvacara dhamma) is a condition for a form-sphere phenomenon by object condition (ārammaṇa-paccaya): By the knowledge of others' minds (cetopariyañāṇa) one knows the mind (citta) of one endowed with a form-sphere mind. Form-sphere aggregates (khandhā) are a condition, by object condition, for the knowledge of the kinds of supernormal power (iddhividhañāṇa), for the knowledge of others' minds, for the knowledge of the recollection of past lives (pubbenivāsānussatiñāṇa), for the knowledge of faring according to kamma (yathākammupagañāṇa), and for the knowledge of the future (anāgataṃsañāṇa). A form-sphere phenomenon is a condition for a not-form-sphere phenomenon (narūpāvacara dhamma) by object condition: One reviews the first jhāna; one reviews the fourth jhāna; one reviews the divine eye (dibbacakkhu); the divine ear element (sotadhātu) … the knowledge of the kinds of supernormal power, the knowledge of others' minds, the knowledge of the recollection of past lives, the knowledge of faring according to kamma … one reviews the knowledge of the future. [One sees] the form-sphere aggregates as impermanent … grief (domanassa) arises. A not-form-sphere phenomenon is a condition for a not-form-sphere phenomenon by object condition: Having given a gift (dāna), virtue (sīla) … the uposatha observance (uposathakamma) … one reviews what was formerly well practised; one relishes it and delights in it; with that as object, lust (rāga) … grief arises. The noble ones (ariyā), having emerged from the path (magga), review the path; they review the fruit (phala); they review Nibbāna. Nibbāna is a condition, by object condition, for change-of-lineage (gotrabhū), for cleansing (vodāna), for the path, for the fruit, and for adverting (āvajjana). The noble ones [review] defilements (kilesa) that have been abandoned … defilements that have been suppressed … [the defilements] formerly [arisen] … The eye (cakkhu) … the base (vatthu) … [one sees] the not-form-sphere aggregates as impermanent … grief arises. The base of the infinity of space (ākāsānañcāyatana) [is a condition] for the base of the infinity of consciousness (viññāṇañcāyatana); the base of nothingness (ākiñcaññāyatana) for the base of neither-perception-nor-non-perception (nevasaññānāsaññāyatana); the form sense base (rūpāyatana) for eye-consciousness (cakkhuviññāṇa); the tangible sense base (phoṭṭhabbāyatana) …. A not-form-sphere phenomenon is a condition for a form-sphere phenomenon by object condition: With the divine eye one sees a form (rūpa); with the divine ear element one hears a sound; by the knowledge of others' minds one knows the mind of one endowed with a not-form-sphere mind. Not-form-sphere aggregates are a condition, by object condition, for the knowledge of the kinds of supernormal power, for the knowledge of others' minds, for the knowledge of the recollection of past lives, for the knowledge of faring according to kamma, and for the knowledge of the future.
