[377] Dependent on a phenomenon (dhamma) that is a root (hetu) and is to be abandoned by development (bhāvanāya pahātabba), a phenomenon that is a root and is to be abandoned by development arises by root condition (hetu-paccaya): three. Dependent on a phenomenon that is not a root (nahetu) and is to be abandoned by development, a phenomenon that is not a root and is to be abandoned by development arises by root condition: three.
