[838] An external phenomenon (bahiddhā dhamma) that is a root (hetu) is a condition (paccaya) for an external phenomenon that is a root by object condition (ārammaṇa-paccaya); it is a condition by connascence condition (sahajāta-paccaya); it is a condition by decisive-support condition (upanissaya-paccaya).
