[172] "Bhikkhus, there are these eight headings (mātikā) for the arising of robe-cloth: one gives within a boundary (sīmā); one gives by agreement (kaṭikā); one gives where alms are appointed; one gives to the Saṅgha; one gives to both Saṅghas; one gives to the Saṅgha that has completed the rains; one gives with designation; one gives to an individual.
"'One gives within a boundary': as many bhikkhus as are within the boundary — it is to be divided by them.
"'One gives by agreement': several residences are sharers of equal gains; when it is given in one residence, it is given in all.
"'One gives where alms are appointed': where regular services are performed for the Saṅgha, there one gives.
"'One gives to the Saṅgha': it is to be divided by the Saṅgha that is present.
"'One gives to both Saṅghas': even if there are many bhikkhus and but one bhikkhunī, half is to be given; even if there are many bhikkhunīs and but one bhikkhu, half is to be given.
"'One gives to the Saṅgha that has completed the rains': as many bhikkhus as have completed the rains in that residence — it is to be divided by them.
"'One gives with designation': [designating it] for conjey, or for a meal, or for eatables, or for robe-cloth, or for lodging, or for medicine.
"'One gives to an individual': [saying,] 'I give this robe-cloth to one of such-and-such a name.'"
The Cīvarakkhandhaka, the Eighth, is finished.
In this khandhaka there are ninety-six cases.
