[187] There are five Saṅghas: a Saṅgha of bhikkhus of four, a Saṅgha of bhikkhus of five, a Saṅgha of bhikkhus of ten, a Saṅgha of bhikkhus of twenty, and a Saṅgha of bhikkhus of more than twenty. Bhikkhus, among these, the Saṅgha of bhikkhus of four, being in harmony and acting in accordance with the Dhamma, is competent to perform all formal acts (kamma) except three acts: full ordination (upasampadā), the invitation (pavāraṇā), and rehabilitation (abbhāna). Bhikkhus, among these, the Saṅgha of bhikkhus of five, being in harmony and acting in accordance with the Dhamma, is competent to perform all formal acts except two acts: full ordination in the middle country (majjhimesu janapadesu) and rehabilitation. Bhikkhus, among these, the Saṅgha of bhikkhus of ten, being in harmony and acting in accordance with the Dhamma, is competent to perform all formal acts except one act: rehabilitation. Bhikkhus, among these, the Saṅgha of bhikkhus of twenty, being in harmony and acting in accordance with the Dhamma, is competent to perform all formal acts. Bhikkhus, among these, the Saṅgha of bhikkhus of more than twenty, being in harmony and acting in accordance with the Dhamma, is competent to perform all formal acts.
