[188] Bhikkhus, if a formal act (kamma) that is to be performed by a group of four should be performed with a bhikkhunī as the fourth, it is no act and ought not to be done. Bhikkhus, if a formal act that is to be performed by a group of four [should be performed] with a sikkhamānā (female probationer) as the fourth … with a sāmaṇera (male novice) as the fourth, with a sāmaṇerī (female novice) as the fourth, with one who has renounced the training as the fourth, with one who has committed an extreme offense (antimavatthu) as the fourth, with one suspended for not seeing an offense as the fourth, with one suspended for not making amends for an offense as the fourth, with one suspended for not relinquishing a bad view as the fourth, with a paṇḍaka as the fourth, with one living in communion by theft (theyyasaṃvāsaka) as the fourth, with one who has gone over to another sect (titthiya) as the fourth, with an animal as the fourth, with a matricide as the fourth, with a patricide as the fourth, with a murderer of an arahant as the fourth, with a violator of a bhikkhunī as the fourth, with a schismatic as the fourth, with a shedder of [a Tathāgata's] blood as the fourth, with a hermaphrodite (ubhatobyañjanaka) as the fourth, with one belonging to a different communion (nānāsaṃvāsaka) as the fourth, with one standing within a different boundary (sīmā) as the fourth, with one standing in the air by psychic power (iddhi) as the fourth, or with the very person in regard to whom the Saṅgha is performing the act as the fourth — should the act be performed, it is no act and ought not to be done. The [acts] to be performed by a group of four [are concluded].
