[254] Mahāpajāpatī Gotamī heard: "It is said that those bhikkhus of Kosambī — makers of strife, makers of quarrels, makers of disputes, makers of contentious talk, makers of legal issues (adhikaraṇa) in the Saṅgha — are coming to Sāvatthī." Then Mahāpajāpatī Gotamī approached the Blessed One; having approached and paid homage to the Blessed One, she stood to one side. Standing to one side, Mahāpajāpatī Gotamī said this to the Blessed One: "Venerable sir, it is said that those bhikkhus of Kosambī — makers of strife, makers of quarrels, makers of disputes, makers of contentious talk, makers of legal issues in the Saṅgha — are coming to Sāvatthī. How, venerable sir, should I conduct myself toward those bhikkhus?"
"Well then, Gotamī, hear the Dhamma on both sides. Having heard the Dhamma on both sides, approve of the view, the acceptance, the preference, and the position of those bhikkhus there who are speakers of Dhamma (dhammavādī). And whatever is to be expected by the Saṅgha of bhikkhunīs from the Saṅgha of bhikkhus, all of that should be expected only from the speakers of Dhamma."
