[42] Now at that time a certain bhikkhu was afflicted with a boil (gaṇḍābādha). They reported this matter to the Blessed One. "Bhikkhus, I allow lancing (satthakamma)."
There was need of astringent water. "Bhikkhus, I allow astringent water (kasāvodaka)."
There was need of sesame paste. "Bhikkhus, I allow sesame paste (tilakakka)."
There was need of a poultice. "Bhikkhus, I allow a poultice (kabaḷikā)."
There was need of a cloth for binding the wound. "Bhikkhus, I allow a wound-bandaging cloth (vaṇabandhanacola)."
The wound itched. "Bhikkhus, I allow washing it with mustard-seed powder."
The wound festered. "Bhikkhus, I allow applying smoke [fumigation]."
Proud flesh rose up [from the wound]. "Bhikkhus, I allow cutting it off with a salt crystal."
The wound would not heal. "Bhikkhus, I allow oil for the wound (vaṇatela)."
The oil dripped. They reported this matter to the Blessed One. "Bhikkhus, I allow an old linen cloth (vikāsika) [to absorb the oil], and every kind of treatment for a wound."
