[129] Now at that time the Venerable Sudhamma was a resident bhikkhu (āvāsika) at Macchikāsaṇḍa, the overseer of building works (navakammika), and a recipient of the regular meal (dhuvabhattika) of Citta the householder. Whenever Citta the householder wished to invite the Saṅgha, or a group, or an individual, he would not invite the Saṅgha, or a group, or an individual without first consulting the Venerable Sudhamma.
Now at that time a number of elder bhikkhus — the Venerable Sāriputta, the Venerable Mahāmoggallāna, the Venerable Mahākaccāna, the Venerable Mahākoṭṭhika, the Venerable Mahākappina, the Venerable Mahācunda, the Venerable Anuruddha, the Venerable Revata, the Venerable Upāli, the Venerable Ānanda, and the Venerable Rāhula — wandering on tour in the Kāsi country, arrived at Macchikāsaṇḍa.
