[377] At that time the Buddha, the Blessed One, was dwelling at Sāvatthī, in the Jeta Grove, in Anāthapiṇḍika's monastery. Now on that occasion the Venerable Udāyi had committed one offense (āpatti) — intentional emission of semen (sañcetanikā sukkavisaṭṭhi) — unconcealed. He informed the bhikkhus: "Friends, I have committed one offense — intentional emission of semen — unconcealed. How, then, should I proceed?" Those bhikkhus reported this matter to the Blessed One. "Well then, bhikkhus, let the Saṅgha give the bhikkhu Udāyi mānatta for six nights for the one offense of intentional emission of semen, unconcealed."
