[443] Now at that time a certain bhikkhu had committed several offenses (āpatti) entailing a formal meeting of the Saṅgha (saṅghādisesa): one offense concealed for one day, two offenses concealed for two days, three offenses concealed for three days, four offenses concealed for four days, five offenses concealed for five days, six offenses concealed for six days, seven offenses concealed for seven days, eight offenses concealed for eight days, nine offenses concealed for nine days, ten offenses concealed for ten days. He informed the bhikkhus: "Friends, I have committed several saṅghādisesa offenses: one offense concealed for one day … ten offenses concealed for ten days. How, then, should I proceed?" Those bhikkhus reported this matter to the Blessed One. "Well then, bhikkhus, let the Saṅgha give that bhikkhu, in respect of those offenses, combined probation (samodhānaparivāsa) according to the value (aggha) of those among the offenses which have been concealed the longest of all."
