[466] Now at that time a certain bhikkhu had committed several offenses (āpatti) entailing initial and subsequent meetings of the Saṅgha (saṅghādisesa). He did not know the limit of the offenses, did not know the limit of the nights; he did not remember the limit of the offenses, did not remember the limit of the nights; he was in doubt about the limit of the offenses, in doubt about the limit of the nights. He informed the bhikkhus: "Friends, I have committed several saṅghādisesa offenses. I do not know the limit of the offenses, I do not know the limit of the nights; I do not remember the limit of the offenses, I do not remember the limit of the nights; I am in doubt about the limit of the offenses, in doubt about the limit of the nights. How, then, should I proceed?" Those bhikkhus reported this matter to the Blessed One. "Well then, bhikkhus, let the Saṅgha grant that bhikkhu, for those offenses, probation to the limit of purity (suddhantaparivāsa)."
