Samuccayakkhandhaka

[477] Bhikkhus, here a bhikkhu who is undergoing probation (parivāsa) is suspended for not seeing an offense (āpatti). Bhikkhus, for one who is suspended, probation does not take effect. If he is later reinstated, that same former giving of probation stands for him. The probation that was given is well given; what has been undergone is well undergone; the remainder should be undergone.
