[591] Then the venerable Dabba the Mallaputta, emerging from seclusion in the evening, approached the Blessed One; and having approached and paid homage to the Blessed One, he sat down to one side. Sitting to one side, the venerable Dabba the Mallaputta said this to the Blessed One: "Here, venerable sir, as I was alone in seclusion, this reflection arose in my mind: 'By me arahantship (arahatta) was realized at seven years from birth; whatever is to be attained by a disciple has all been fully attained by me; there is nothing further for me to be done, nor any adding to what has been done. What service (veyyāvacca), then, might I render to the Saṅgha?' Then, venerable sir, it occurred to me: 'Suppose I were to assign lodgings (senāsana) for the Saṅgha and to allocate the meals.' I wish, venerable sir, to assign lodgings for the Saṅgha and to allocate the meals."
"Good, good, Dabba! Then, Dabba, assign lodgings for the Saṅgha and allocate the meals."
"So be it, venerable sir," the venerable Dabba the Mallaputta assented to the Blessed One.
