[604] Bhikkhus, here again a bhikkhu has committed an offence (āpatti). The Saṅgha, or several bhikkhus, or a single individual reproves him: "Let the venerable one recall having committed an offence of such a kind." He, though not mad, makes a pretense of madness, saying: "I too act thus; you too act thus. This is allowable for me; this also is allowable for you." The Saṅgha gives him the verdict of past insanity (amūḷhavinaya). The giving of the verdict of past insanity is not in accordance with the Dhamma.
These are the three givings of the verdict of past insanity that are not in accordance with the Dhamma.
