[606] Bhikkhus, here again, a bhikkhu is insane (ummattaka), his mind deranged. While insane, his mind deranged, he has perpetrated much that is unworthy of an ascetic, both in what he has spoken and in what he has attempted by body. The Saṅgha, or several bhikkhus, or a single person reproves him: "Let the venerable one recall having committed an offense (āpatti) of such a kind." He, not actually recalling it, speaks thus: "I do recall it, friends, but as though in a dream." The Saṅgha gives him the verdict of past insanity (amūḷhavinaya). The giving of the verdict of past insanity is in accordance with the Dhamma.
