[105] Now at that time people came to the monastery bringing scents (gandha) and garlands (mālā). The bhikkhus, being scrupulous, did not accept them. They reported this matter to the Blessed One. "Bhikkhus, I allow you, having taken the scent, to make a five-finger mark (pañcaṅgulika) with it on the door-panel, and, having taken the flowers, to lay them to one side in the dwelling."
