[202] Then the Blessed One, having dressed in the morning and taken his bowl and robe, approached the residence of the wealthy merchant (seṭṭhi) of Rājagaha; having approached, he sat down on the prepared seat together with the Saṅgha of bhikkhus. Then the merchant of Rājagaha, with his own hand, served and satisfied the Saṅgha of bhikkhus headed by the Buddha with excellent hard and soft food; and when the Blessed One had finished eating and had withdrawn his hand from the bowl, he sat down to one side. Sitting to one side, the merchant of Rājagaha said this to the Blessed One: "Venerable sir, these sixty dwellings (vihāra) have been caused to be built by me, one desiring merit, desiring heaven. How, venerable sir, am I to proceed with regard to these dwellings?"
"Well then, householder, dedicate those sixty dwellings to the Saṅgha of the four quarters (cātuddisa saṅgha), present and yet to come."
"So be it, venerable sir," the merchant of Rājagaha replied to the Blessed One, and he dedicated those sixty dwellings to the Saṅgha of the four quarters, present and yet to come.
Then the Blessed One expressed his appreciation (anumodanā) to the merchant of Rājagaha with these verses:
