[203] "It wards off cold and heat, and beasts of prey besides,
creeping things and mosquitoes, and the rains of the cold season too;
and when the dreaded wind and burning heat arise, they are warded off.
For the sake of shelter, for the sake of comfort, for meditating and for insight,
the gift of a dwelling to the Saṅgha has been praised by the Buddhas as foremost.
Therefore indeed a wise person, seeing his own good,
should have delightful dwellings built, and lodge therein those of great learning.
To them he should give food and drink, clothing and lodgings—
to those who are upright—with a mind full of confidence.
They teach him the Dhamma that dispels all suffering (dukkha),
which Dhamma having understood here, he attains final Nibbāna, free from taints (āsava)."
Then the Blessed One, having expressed appreciation to the seṭṭhi of Rājagaha with these verses, rose from his seat and departed.
