[224] Now at that time the red ochre (gerukā) would not adhere to a rough wall. They reported this matter to the Blessed One. "Bhikkhus, I allow you, having applied a lump of husks (thusapiṇḍa) and smoothed it down with a trowel (pāṇikā), to apply the red ochre." The red ochre would not hold fast. … "Bhikkhus, I allow you, having applied clay mixed with bran (kuṇḍakamattikā) and smoothed it down with a trowel, to apply the red ochre." The red ochre would not hold fast. They reported this matter to the Blessed One. "Bhikkhus, I allow mustard-seed powder (sāsapakuṭa) and beeswax oil (sitthatelaka)." It became too thick. They reported this matter to the Blessed One. "Bhikkhus, I allow you to wipe it off with a piece of cloth."
