[225] Now at that time, on rough ground the black coloring would not adhere … "Bhikkhus, I allow you, having applied a lump of chaff (thusapiṇḍa) and smoothed it down with a trowel, to lay on the black coloring." The black coloring would not hold fast. They reported this matter to the Blessed One. "Bhikkhus, I allow you, having applied worm-cast clay (laṇḍumattikā) and smoothed it down with a trowel, to lay on the black coloring." The black coloring would not hold fast. They reported this matter to the Blessed One. "Bhikkhus, I allow gum (ikkāsa) and astringent decoction (kasāva)."
