[228] Now at that time the dwellings (vihāra) were exposed to view, [thronged with people] like Āḷakamandā. Bhikkhus were ashamed to lie down. They reported this matter to the Blessed One. "Bhikkhus, I allow a curtain (tirokaraṇī)." They lifted the curtain and looked in. They reported this matter to the Blessed One. "Bhikkhus, I allow a half-wall (aḍḍhakuḍḍaka)." They looked over from above the half-wall. They reported this matter to the Blessed One. "Bhikkhus, I allow three kinds of inner chambers (gabbha): a palanquin-shaped chamber (sivikāgabbha), a tube-shaped [long] chamber (nāḷikāgabbha), and an upper chamber (hammiyagabbha)."
