[264] Bhikkhus, these ten are not to be paid homage: one ordained later is not to be paid homage by one ordained earlier; one not fully ordained is not to be paid homage; one of a different communion (nānāsaṃvāsaka) who is more senior but speaks contrary to Dhamma is not to be paid homage; a woman (mātugāma) is not to be paid homage; a paṇḍaka is not to be paid homage; one on probation (pārivāsika) is not to be paid homage; one deserving to be sent back to the beginning (mūlāya paṭikassanāraha) is not to be paid homage; one deserving mānatta is not to be paid homage; one undergoing mānatta is not to be paid homage; one deserving rehabilitation (abbhāna) is not to be paid homage. These, bhikkhus, are the ten who are not to be paid homage.
Bhikkhus, these three are to be paid homage: one ordained earlier is to be paid homage by one ordained later; one of a different communion who is more senior and speaks in accordance with Dhamma is to be paid homage; and in the world with its devas, with its Māras, with its Brahmās, in this generation with its ascetics and brahmins, its devas and humans, the Tathāgata, the Arahant, the Perfectly Enlightened One, is to be paid homage. These, bhikkhus, are the three who are to be paid homage.
