Vinayapiṭaka · Cūḷavagga (2) · Vol. 7 · Section 268

[268] Now at that time, people in a dining hall within a village dwelling prepared both couches and benches upholstered with cotton stuffing. The bhikkhus, being scrupulous, did not sit down upon them. They reported this matter to the Blessed One. "Bhikkhus, I allow you to sit down upon what has been arranged by householders (gihivikaṭa), but not to lie down upon it."
