[291] Now at that time the grandmother of King Pasenadi of Kosala had died. Owing to her death, many unallowable goods (akappiyabhaṇḍa) accrued to the Saṅgha, namely: a high couch (āsandi), a divan adorned with animal figures (pallaṅka), a long-fleeced woolen cover (goṇaka), a multicolored woolen coverlet (cittakā), a white woolen coverlet (paṭikā), a woolen coverlet embroidered with flowers (paṭalikā), a quilt stuffed with cotton wool (tūlikā), a woolen coverlet embroidered with figures of beasts of prey (vikatikā), a woolen covering with upright fleece (uddhalomī), a woolen covering with fleece on one side (ekantalomī), a silk coverlet embroidered with gems (kaṭissa), a silk sheet (koseyya), a woolen carpet large enough for sixteen dancers (kuttaka), an elephant rug, a horse rug, a chariot rug, a spread of antelope hides sewn together (ajinappaveṇi), a choice spread made of kadali-deer hide, a covering with a canopy above, and a couch with red pillows at both ends.
They reported this matter to the Blessed One. "Bhikkhus, I allow the high couch to be used after cutting off its legs; the divan to be used after breaking off its animal figures; the cotton-stuffed quilt, after being torn open, to be made into a pillow; and the remainder to be made into floor coverings."
