[15] Now at that time the bhikkhus of the group of six (chabbaggiyā) used high and luxurious beds and seats (uccāsayana-mahāsayana), namely: a high couch (āsandi), a divan (pallaṅka), a long-fleeced coverlet (goṇaka), a many-colored coverlet (cittaka), a white woolen coverlet (paṭikā), a woolen coverlet embroidered with flowers (paṭalikā), a quilt stuffed with cotton (tūlikā), a woolen coverlet embroidered with figures of animals (vikatikā), a woolen coverlet with upright nap (uddhalomī), a woolen coverlet with the fleece on one side only (ekantalomī), a silken coverlet embroidered with gems (kaṭissa), a silk coverlet (koseyya), a dancers' carpet (kuttaka), an elephant rug (hatthatthara), a horse rug (assatthara), a chariot rug (rathatthara), a spread of antelope hides sewn together (ajinappaveṇi), a choice spread of kadali-deer hide (kadalimigapavarapaccattharaṇa), a bed with a canopy above (sauttaracchada), and a bed with red cushions at both ends (ubhatolohitakūpadhāna).
People, wandering about on a tour of the dwellings, saw this and looked down upon them, criticized them, and spread it about, saying: "Just like householders who enjoy sensual pleasures!" They reported this matter to the Blessed One.
