Or whereas some honorable ascetics and brahmins, while eating food given in faith, live devoted to high and luxurious beds (uccāsayana-mahāsayana) such as these — namely: a high couch (āsandi); a divan with legs carved in animal figures (pallaṅka); a long-fleeced woolen cover (gonaka); a woolen coverlet of many colors (cittaka); a white woolen coverlet (paṭikā); a woolen coverlet embroidered with flowers (paṭalikā); a quilt stuffed with cotton (tūlikā); a woolen coverlet embroidered with animal figures (vikatikā); a woolen coverlet with raised nap (uddhalomi); one with nap on one side only (ekantalomi); a silken coverlet embroidered with gems (kaṭissa); a silken sheet (koseyya); a dancers' carpet (kuttaka); an elephant rug; a horse rug; a chariot rug; a spread of black-antelope hides sewn together (ajinappaveṇi); a choice spread of kadali-deer hide; a bed with a canopy above; one with red cushions at both ends — he refrains from such high and luxurious beds.
