[109] Or whereas some respected ascetics and brahmins, while eating food given in faith, remain devoted to such engagement in adornment and embellishment—namely: anointing, massaging, bathing, and kneading the body; mirrors, eye-ointment, garlands, scents, and unguents; face powder and face cream; bracelets, bands for the top-knot, walking sticks, ornamental cases, swords, rapiers, parasols, fancy sandals, turbans, gems, yak-tail whisks, and white garments with long fringes—he refrains from such engagement in adornment and embellishment. This too pertains to his ethics (sīla).
