[110] Or whereas some honorable ascetics and brahmins, while eating food given in faith, continue to engage in low talk (tiracchānakathā) of such kinds as this — namely: talk of kings, talk of bandits, talk of great ministers, talk of armies, talk of perils, talk of battles, talk of food, talk of drink, talk of clothing, talk of beds, talk of garlands, talk of scents, talk of relatives, talk of vehicles, talk of villages, talk of market towns, talk of cities, talk of countries, talk of women, talk of men, talk of heroes, talk of streets, talk of wells, talk of the departed, desultory talk, speculation about the world, speculation about the sea, and talk of existence thus and so — he is one who refrains from low talk of such kinds. This too pertains to his virtue (sīla).
