[111] Or whereas some honorable ascetics and brahmins, while enjoying food given in faith, remain engaged in argumentative talk (viggāhikakathā) of this kind — namely: "You do not understand this teaching and discipline (dhammavinaya); I understand this teaching and discipline. How could you understand this teaching and discipline? You are practicing wrongly; I am practicing rightly. What I say is consistent; what you say is inconsistent. What should have been said first, you said last; what should have been said last, you said first. What you have long rehearsed has been overturned. A charge has been laid against your doctrine; you stand refuted. Go about to rescue your doctrine — or extricate yourself, if you can!" — he refrains from argumentative talk of this kind. This too pertains to his moral conduct (sīla).
