[37] Now at that time the group-of-six bhikkhus (chabbaggiyā) used ornate bowl rests (pattamaṇḍala), covered with figures, wrought like decorative wall-paintings; they went about displaying them even along the streets. People complained, criticized, and spread it about, saying, "… like householders who enjoy sensual pleasures." They reported this matter to the Blessed One. "Bhikkhus, ornate bowl rests, covered with figures, wrought like decorative wall-paintings, are not to be used. Whoever should use one commits an offense of wrong-doing (dukkaṭa). I allow, bhikkhus, an ordinary bowl rest."
