[478] What are the five legitimate suspensions of the Pātimokkha (dhammikāni pātimokkhaṭṭhapanāni)? One suspends the Pātimokkha on account of a pārājika offense that has a basis (samūlika); one suspends the Pātimokkha on account of a saṅghādisesa offense that has a basis; one suspends the Pātimokkha on account of a pācittiya offense that has a basis; one suspends the Pātimokkha on account of a pāṭidesanīya offense that has a basis; one suspends the Pātimokkha on account of a dukkaṭa offense that has a basis. These are the five legitimate suspensions of the Pātimokkha.
