[507] "But, venerable sir, in how many ways should non-remorse (avippaṭisāra) be aroused in a bhikkhu who has been accused not in accordance with the Dhamma?"
"Upāli, non-remorse should be aroused in a bhikkhu who has been accused not in accordance with the Dhamma in five ways: 'The venerable one was accused at the wrong time, not at the right time — that is ground enough for your non-remorse. The venerable one was accused with what is untrue, not with what is true — that is ground enough for your non-remorse. The venerable one was accused with harsh speech, not with gentle speech — that is ground enough for your non-remorse. The venerable one was accused with what is unconnected with benefit, not with what is connected with benefit — that is ground enough for your non-remorse. The venerable one was accused with inward hatred, not with a mind of loving-kindness (mettā) — that is ground enough for your non-remorse.' Upāli, in these five ways non-remorse should be aroused in a bhikkhu who has been accused not in accordance with the Dhamma."
