[533] Then the Blessed One, having stayed at Vesālī for as long as he wished, set out on tour toward Sāvatthī, and walking on tour by stages, he arrived at Sāvatthī. There the Blessed One dwelt at Sāvatthī, in Jeta's Grove, Anāthapiṇḍika's park.
Now at that time the group-of-six bhikkhus (chabbaggiyā bhikkhū) sprinkled bhikkhunīs with muddy water, thinking, "Perhaps they will become enamored of us." … They reported this matter to the Blessed One. … "Bhikkhus, bhikkhunīs are not to be sprinkled with muddy water by a bhikkhu; whoever should sprinkle them commits an offense of wrong-doing (dukkaṭa). I allow, bhikkhus, a penalty (daṇḍakamma) to be imposed on that bhikkhu."
Then it occurred to the bhikkhus: "What penalty, then, should be imposed?" Those bhikkhus reported this matter to the Blessed One. "Bhikkhus, that bhikkhu is to be made by the Saṅgha of bhikkhunīs one who is not to be paid homage."
