[536] Now at that time the group-of-six bhikkhunīs exposed their bodies and showed them to bhikkhus; they exposed their breasts and showed them to bhikkhus; they exposed their thighs and showed them to bhikkhus; they exposed their genitals and showed them to bhikkhus; they spoke suggestively to bhikkhus and consorted with bhikkhus, thinking, "Perhaps they will become infatuated with us." … Those bhikkhus reported this matter to the Blessed One. … "Bhikkhus, a bhikkhunī should not expose her body and show it to bhikkhus; she should not expose her breast and show it to bhikkhus; she should not expose her thigh and show it to bhikkhus; she should not expose her genitals and show them to bhikkhus; she should not speak suggestively to bhikkhus; she should not consort with bhikkhus. Whoever should consort commits an offence of wrong-doing (dukkaṭa). Bhikkhus, I allow a penalty (daṇḍakamma) to be imposed upon that bhikkhunī."
Then it occurred to the bhikkhus: "What penalty, indeed, should be imposed?" They reported this matter to the Blessed One. … "Bhikkhus, I allow a prohibition (āvaraṇa) to be made." When the prohibition had been made, they did not heed it. … They reported this matter to the Blessed One. … "Bhikkhus, I allow the exhortation (ovāda) to be suspended."
