[554] Now at that time bhikkhunīs bent in their ribs with a strip of woven bamboo, bent in their ribs with a strip of leather, bent in their ribs with a band of white cloth, bent in their ribs with a braid of cloth, bent in their ribs with a twisted roll of cloth, bent in their ribs with a band of small cloth, bent in their ribs with a braid of small cloth, bent in their ribs with a twisted roll of small cloth, bent in their ribs with a braid of thread, bent in their ribs with a twisted roll of thread. People complained, criticized, and spread it about, "… just like women householders who enjoy sensual pleasures." They reported this matter to the Blessed One. "Bhikkhus, a bhikkhunī's ribs are not to be bent in with a strip of woven bamboo, not to be bent in with a strip of leather, not to be bent in with a band of white cloth, not to be bent in with a braid of cloth, not to be bent in with a twisted roll of cloth, not to be bent in with a band of small cloth, not to be bent in with a braid of small cloth, not to be bent in with a twisted roll of small cloth, not to be bent in with a braid of thread, not to be bent in with a twisted roll of thread. Whoever should bend them in commits an offence of wrong-doing (dukkaṭa)."
