[555] Now at that time bhikkhunīs had their hips rubbed with a bone (aṭṭhilla), had their hips pounded with a cow's jawbone (gohanuka), had their hands pounded, had the backs of their hands pounded, had their feet pounded, had the backs of their feet pounded, had their thighs pounded, had their faces pounded, had their gums pounded. People complained, criticized, and spread it about: "… just like women householders who enjoy sensual pleasures." They reported this matter to the Blessed One. "Bhikkhus, a bhikkhunī should not have her hips rubbed with a bone, should not have her hips pounded with a cow's jawbone, should not have her hand pounded, should not have the back of her hand pounded, should not have her foot pounded, should not have the back of her foot pounded, should not have her thigh pounded, should not have her face pounded, should not have her gums pounded. Whoever should have this done: an offense (āpatti) of wrongdoing (dukkaṭa)."
