[89] Now at that time grass-dust kept falling down in the gateway chamber (koṭṭhaka) … "Bhikkhus, I allow you, having first packed it down (ogumbetvā), to make it plastered within and without (ullittāvalitta), white-colored, black-colored, finished with red ochre (gerukaparikamma), with garland-work (mālākamma), creeper-work (latākamma), makara-teeth design (makaradantaka), and the five-band design (pañcapaṭṭhika)." The surrounding yard (pariveṇa) was muddy … "Bhikkhus, I allow you to scatter gravel (marumba)." They could not manage [to cover it fully] … "Bhikkhus, I allow you to lay down flagstones (padarasilā)." Water collected … "Bhikkhus, I allow a water drain (udakaniddhamana)."
