[1113] How does one, thinking "I am of great learning," despise one of little learning? Here a certain one is of great learning, a retainer of what he has heard, an accumulator of learning. Despising that other, thinking, "This one is of little learning, of little textual transmission (āgama), retaining little," he declares what is not Dhamma to be Dhamma, declares Dhamma to be not Dhamma … declares a grave offence (āpatti) to be an offence that is not grave, declares an offence that is not grave to be a grave offence. Thus, thinking "I am of great learning," he despises one of little learning.
