[1128] Making a sign (nimittakamma) means: he makes a sign, [thinking,] "With this cloth I shall spread the kaṭhina."
Roundabout talk (parikathā) means: he makes roundabout talk, [thinking,] "By this roundabout talk I shall produce kaṭhina-cloth."
Makeshift (kukkukata) means: this refers to a gift given without formal appropriation (anādiyadāna).
Storing (sannidhi) means: there are two kinds of storing — storing in respect of the making, and storing by accumulation.
Subject to forfeiture (nissaggiya) means: while [the cloth] is being made, dawn breaks.
In these twenty-four ways the kaṭhina is not [validly] spread.
