[1146] "The kaṭhina should be known": the collection, the combination of those very dhammas — the name, the act of naming, the designation, the terminology, the phrasing, the expression — that is to say, "kaṭhina."
"The month for spreading (atthāra) the kaṭhina should be known": the last month of the rainy season should be known.
"The failure of the spreading of the kaṭhina should be known": the failure of the spreading of the kaṭhina should be known by twenty-four modes.
"The success of the spreading of the kaṭhina should be known": the success of the spreading of the kaṭhina should be known by seventeen modes.
"The making of a hint (nimittakamma) should be known": one makes a hint, thinking, "With this cloth I shall spread the kaṭhina."
"Roundabout talk (parikathā) should be known": one makes roundabout talk, thinking, "By this roundabout talk I shall bring kaṭhina-cloth into being."
"Provisional [borrowed] cloth (kukkukata) should be known": a giving without [actual] handing over (anādiyadāna) should be known.
"Storing (sannidhi) should be known": two kinds of storing should be known — storing in respect of the making, and storing by accumulation.
"What is to be forfeited (nissaggiya) should be known": while [the cloth] is being made, dawn breaks.
